ESG Transparency Initiative (ESGTI) is a human rights organization and grassroots advocacy movement fighting for a more  transparent, equitable, and sustainable economic order - one in which businesses and financial institutions respect human rights and the environment. Guided by the belief that transparency is the key to accountability, we are building a grassroots movement of investors, consumers, and investment beneficiaries who can drive corporate social responsibility from the bottom up.

Money talks; the question is: how will you use your voice?

Educators for Migrant Justice is ESGTI’s flagship grassroots advocacy campaign fighting to end pension fund complicity in the migrant abuse crisis. The movement was launched at the local level in June 2018 - the height of the administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy - with the help of a group of passionate teachers in the Bay Area, California, and in partnership with the Badass Teachers Association.

Educators for Migrant Justice, our flagship campaign, achieved its first campaign win in November when we successfully pushed the country’s second largest pension fund, the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) to divest from for-profit prison companies CoreCivic and GEO Group over their human rights abuses of migrants and other detainees. This was truly an unprecedented and historic victory that could not have been achieved without the power of grassroots activism and mobilization spearheaded by CalSTRS members themselves. The campaign has since expanded to the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) as well as the Oregon Public Employees’ Retirement System.
